Description
Beagles are hardy hounds that are squarely built. Their head is broad and slightly rounded. The Beagle comes in various hound colors.


Size
Beagles have two height classes which are 13-15 inches and under 13 inches. Beagles are 20-35 lbs. with the female slightly smaller then the male.


Coat
Consists of short sleek hairs.


Color
Beagles come in a wide variety of colors including tri-color, black and tan, red and white, orange and white, or lemon and white.


Temperament
The beagle is a sweet, intelligent, gentle, active and curious dog that loves everyone. This breed gets along well with children and other dogs.


Care
Beagles have an easy-care coat. It is advisable to trim their nails regularly and check their ears for any kind of infection.


Exercise
Beagles are very energetic and need plenty of exercise. A yard will help and a daily walk is advised.


Training
They are generally obedient, eager to please, but can be difficult to train as they can get bored easily.


Shedding
Beagles are an average shedder.


Barking & Howling
Some beagles bark and howl. They have a distinct howl / bay of a bark when they are on the hunt.


Life Expectancy
Healthy, well-cared for Beagles provide companionship to their owners for twelve to fifteen years.


Health
Beagles may be prone to epilepsy, eye and back problems, and dwarfism.
